About Julie

I am a mother to four wonderful children. All four of them have breastfed and we practice child-led weaning. I have over 11 years of breastfeeding experience with my own children. I have personally experienced a range of birth experiences from hospital birth to home water birth, and have seen first-hand how birth can affect breastfeeding. Breastfeeding four children has given me a chance to experience some of its many facets... first time mother, adjusting to more than one child, breastfeeding during pregnancy and tandem breastfeeding. We use holistic remedies in our home and I incorporate these into my practice. Our family has found holistic remedies are very effective without dangerous side effects.
I graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Fisheries and Wildlife. Nature and biological processes have always been fascinating to me. It was only natural that breastfeeding, a beautiful natural process, became a passion and I devoured any and all breastfeeding information I could. I became a La Leche League Leader and have been helping mothers and babies in my community for nearly eight years. Still, I wanted to learn more! This desire to continue to learn led me to the path of becoming an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). I graduated from the Grow Our Own Lactation Consultation Preparatory Program and passed the international board exam, thus becoming an IBCLC. I continue to keep current in lactation science and regularly attend seminars, conferences and other continuing education opportunities. I have attended continuing education sessions with well known experts in lactation such as Dr. William Sears, Kittie Frantz, RN, CPNP-PC, Dr. Kathleen Kendall-Tackett, Dr. Jack Newman, Dr. Alison Hazelbaker, Dr. Lawrence Kotlow, Jennifer Tow, IBCLC, RLC, Chele Marmet, IBCLC, RLC, Nancy Mohrbacher, IBCLC, RLC, Catherine Watson Genna, BS, IBCLC, RLC and many others.
I believe that each mother is the expert in her own children and family. My mission is to help you meet your goals of breastfeeding and mothering, whether that means breastfeeding for two months, two years or beyond!
